Influencer Strategy

Notice the obvious: The current way of being unfamiliar with students in their writing progress from previous school years is frustrating, especially when you are trying to go through the Response to Intervention (RtI) process. It is also time-consuming when you want those writing samples to go to the next grade level.
-
Look for crucial moments: Parent-Teacher conferences, RtI meetings, and ARD meetings are ways in which the writing can be shown. Students will also be able to view how far they’ve come after viewing their own writing samples from elementary up to their current grade level.
-
Study standout examples: Begin tracking the first group that utilizes the initiative, as well as the Reading/Language Arts teachers. Teachers and students who begin this will see it as a practice of students monitoring their progress.
-
Spot culture busters: Addressing training needs of teachers who aren’t on board with the initiative due to feeling like they lack the proper tools with technology.
-
Results you want to achieve and how you will measure them.
-
Desired result: By May 2026, the first group of 5th graders will have their work input into Google Sites for their e-portfolio. Students and stakeholders will track students’ e-Portfolio writing progress from elementary to high school years.
-
From 5th Grade to Senior Year, students will have made a writing e-portfolio to show their writing progress monitoring from K-12 grade.

To be an influencer, I must get my team on board, or get my team to achieve results–it is important for my team to be held accountable for their actions and myself included. As a leader and influencer, I have the ability to influence others, and change their behavior to achieve results (Grenny, 2013). Thus, it is vital I create a culture of accountability and responsibility within my innovation plan. To foster a culture of change, I need to be transparent with all stakeholders for the change to occur. Like Dr. Cross said, common sense is your greatest opponent–if I incorporate the three myths into my initiative, the message won’t appeal to the audience, nor will it be meaningful. Dr. Cross made the message clear for her audience that to personalize your message for your audience/organization, we need to consider how you will change the attitudes or behaviors of your organization; in what ways or how will you engage your audience effectively; how will the social norms influence behavior in this context; and how will you ensure that the change is both effective and meaningful.
As we move forth with change, we need to win over hearts and minds by establishing a sense of urgency and speaking to the heart (Kotter, 2011). Change in any organization is hard, but when you light a sense of urgency in people, see complacency is down and with negative feelings, you must realize there needs to be a chance for change. Once teachers realize how effective the change is with e-portfolios, hearts and minds will be won over and the need will gravitate to urgency.
