5302: Concepts of Educational Technology

5302, Concepts of Educational Technology allowed us to create and design activities which helped us contribute to our learning style approach and methods. We began this process by building our e-Portfolio with various activities we were assigned: Growth Mindset plan, Learning Manifesto, Contribution to the Learning Community and a blog about the Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) we are a part of. These gave us access to Choice, Ownership, Voice and Authentic learning (COVA). This type of learning process allows us to innovate change as leaders in the organizational leadership setting.

One of our first assignments was the Growth Mindset plan. This is presented as a Canva presentation, which is where I was able to express my creativity. “In My Growth Mindset Era”, was one of my first concepts of COVA without even realizing it and transformed me as a learner and leader. During my first eight week session in the ADL program, I was also enrolled in 5305, Disruptive Innovation. We were told by both professors we will figure out how they intertwine simultaneously. It took me a while and it wasn’t until we were in our sixth week when I realized we will need a growth mindset throughout this program and when we are in leadership positions. As leaders we will need to have that growth mindset for ourselves and our fellow colleagues. Without the growth mindset, how can we help ourselves if we can’t help others?

Another assignment we utilized COVA was our Learning Manifesto. Our Learning Manifesto reminded me a whole lot about my teaching philosophy paper I wrote while in the Masters and Certification program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. I thought of it that way while brainstorming my Learning Manifesto. Topics such as: My passion and my why; Emerging issues in digital learning; What is wrong or right in education?; Core beliefs and impact in digital education; and Accomplishments and innovative practices made me reminisce about my teaching philosophy. Sure, my philosophy has changed which is great, but I do know for a fact that I am considered a learner through and through and am deeply passionate about my work and what I stand for in education.

The next assignment was the Contribution to your Learning Community. This assignment made me process and gather how much I contributed to the learning community of 5302. I rated myself 80-100. I did so because I know I am not perfect and there is always room for growth. I felt as if this was a great reflection of myself as a learner and the progress I’ve made during this short eight week session. While I feel like I still have a lot of learning to do within this program, I’ve learned from my peers as well with their knowledge about what they’ve done with their e-portfolio and any suggestions they’ve given.

This course allowed such heavy creativity and expression, which is COVA and the standard of the ADL program at Lamar University. As I continue on with this program and after, I know and understand the importance of COVA and how influential it is in the change of oneself.
