Understanding by Design

In 5313, we were assigned to develop a backward design using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework by Wiggins (2005). The goal of Wiggins' approach was to provide an alternative design method for my innovation plan. To explore Fink's3 Column Table Approach, please click here.

I find myself uncertain regarding which framework I prefer between Fink's 3 Table Column and Wiggins' Understanding by Design template. Upon reflection, I noticed that Wiggins' template is more detail-oriented, which I appreciate for its thoroughness. On the other hand, I genuinely liked the set of questions that accompany Fink's 3 Table Column, as they prompt critical thinking and reflection. Both frameworks offer significant benefits for instructional designers and those involved in curriculum development. When I connect these insights back to my innovation plan, I realize that both templates are not only advantageous but also serve as valuable resources that I can utilize in the design process of the intended outcomes.
