In My Learning Era
Follow me on my journey to learning and growing in the Applied Digital Learning program at Lamar University.
Contribution to the Learning Environment
In 5313 we had to submit a Contribution to the Learning Environment as our final assignment. This assignment allowed for more self-reflection, which I really enjoy doing because as individuals it allows us for self-growth and we find what is working and what isn't.
5313, Creating Significant Learning Environment(s), allowed us to create and design a lesson plan, but a more robust one, and connect it back to our innovation plan. This method allowed us to contribute our learning style approach and methods. To begin with, we had assignments such as New Culture of Learning; Creating your Learning Philosophy; Aligning Outcomes, Assessments, and Activities; Universal by Design; Developing a Growth Mindset Plan and Final Compilation; and Contribution to your Learning Community. These assignments allowed us to create and design a plan for universal learners in a significant learning environment and connect it back to our innovation plan.
Reflection on what is working and what you can do better.
As a learner, I know I can also do better. One way in which I can do this is by expanding on my thoughts with more details. I feel like I should have it down since I always give details on any type of work. In the classroom, I always give details for assignments to my students, and even the paperwork I have to do as a teacher. A lot of peers and parents appreciate that—however, I feel I was lacking it at times during this course. What is working is the amount of time I put into an assignment and not giving up. I always take the feedback with the feedforward and apply it to my assignments. I appreciate it from any professor and peer to help me grow as a learner.
Revised all assignments and reflected on revisions in this contribution to a learning activity.
I’ve always found it difficult to reflect on assignments and revise. For me, it has been a challenging thought or task to undertake – I experienced significant anxiety over this during my undergraduate studies, but now I embrace it because I want to improve. The first assignment for this course was tough, to be honest. However, after reflecting on it and reading Dr. Grogan's comments, I was able to revise the assignment for a more polished result. After that initial assignment, I knew what I needed to do moving forward. I acknowledge this area of improvement, and it takes a lot of courage for me to review my work. I'm grateful to have wonderful groups that provide feedback and share alternative perspectives. I also appreciate feedback from my professors, especially Dr. Grogan, whose insights helped tremendously. In the beginning, I felt lost with the first assignment, but after considering the feedback, I knew how to approach the next one more effectively
Completed ALL of the course readings, videos, and supporting resources.
I admit that I rushed through the course reading. I believe it all provided an interesting perspective on creating a significant learning environment, but I realized I needed to move quickly to stay on track with the course outline. I acknowledge that I could have performed better in this area and started earlier in the semester.
Met the various course activity deadlines indicated in the calendar.
Meeting various deadlines is hard, especially when taking six hours on top of a full-time job. I am proud of myself for staying on top of the assignments with this class in particular. For the most part, I turned in assignments a day early or right on time. However, the only time I was late was for a discussion board post and to reply to peers. Those two slipped my mind completely, which I'm unhappy about, but I will keep myself in check for the next class. Due to the slip up on my end, it is why I believe I would score myself in the 80-90 range.
Contributed to, helped build, and provided feedback to your core collaboration group
I’m in two groups: one for this class and one for 5303. Both groups have been such a great form of collaboration. We always post our work to one another with links and suggestions for improving an assignment. One group consisted of Kelsie Adams, Leslie Gutierrez, Ayla Righenour, and Angela Speck. Another group consisted of Veronica Mata, Cristy Silkin, and Katelyn O’ Quin. I’ve had to the best groups in this program, and I’m very grateful for their feedback. The moment one of us finished an assignment, we immediately inserted our Google Doc link to provide feedback on the quality of the writing. We also provided our website to assess the quality of the website to make recommendations. Their feedback helped me tremendously for the feedforward, and I believe I learned a lot from them too about their innovation plan or their website on what works and what doesn’t.
Accelerated ADL option reflection.
I’m in the accelerated option of the ADL program. Throughout the first eight weeks of the spring 2025 semester, I took 5303 Portfolio class and 5313 Creating Significant Learning Environments. Both classes correlate through the creation of the e-Portfolio and analyzing the the environment in which a learner learns. I know gave tremendous thought about the connection of these two classes--we are to create our learning environment for the learners and the authentic aspect of the environment.
